Headlining Summerlove 2002 and bringing his own style of tough and funky US house, Erick Morillo has been djing since the tender age of twelve. New Jersey local Morillo started producing in 1992, and under the name Reel 2 Reel broke worldwide with the well known hit I LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVE IT. The hit opened up the European scene to Morillo, and he had several hits that hit number three on charts in Europe and Asia. Reel 2 Reel was considered Pop, Erick did not like this mainstream label, and wanted to go back to his underground roots. Eric Morillo is now one of the most sought out djs in the US, and one of very few US DJs who still plays gigs in Europe. I had never had the pleasure of listening to Eric before last week, and now he is one of my favorite DJs. Heard the word through big bird he was headlining Summerlove, and thought I would check him out.
I found an explosive live set at Mobile Home the New Years party in Sydney, Australia. Talk about your funk, Erick delivers through the whole set, running 120 minutes long. Spinning some of my favorite tracks like Michael Jackson- Billie Jean, sweet dreams are made of these, and La La Land. Could not help but to start dancing in my room through most of the set. The crowd at this event is incredibly energetic, just by hearing them on the live recording you can tell Erick Morillo knows how to work a crowd to its full potential. I myself can not wait to see what Mr. Erick Morillo brings to us here in Vancouver, and expect him to single handedly rock the 2002 edition of Summerlove.
