FISCHERSPOONER @ MEZZANINE (San Francisco, USA)

mod.Fischerspooner1 FISCHERSPOONER @ MEZZANINE (San Francisco, USA)Ive seen Fischerspooner twice. Both times I couldnt bring myself to write about the experience. Its not a concert, not even a show. Its a fucking experience. If you havent seen any footage youre probably writing me off as a slobbering groupie.

Two and a half weeks ago I was wasting company time by surfing the web. I checked out the FS website and noticed that they were playing in San Francisco. My heart stopped. Its not far. My heart started. I did go to London just to see them. My heart sped up. Thats soon. I inhaled. Fischerspooner is my most favourite band in the world. The only reason why I didnt puke from the excitement is because I never exhaled.

But on Friday, August 25th at the Mezzanine nightclub I let it all out. I screamed and sang and yelled ELECTRO IS A FLASH IN THE PAN! I grabbed my head and danced uncontrollably. I could feel my face contort into so many delicate and hideous expressions. I had my arms raised for most of it and at least 20% of the time I must have had my eyes closed. Ive never been moved to tears by music but this is as close as its ever gotten.

Last time I saw Fischerspooner it was Casey and a band. Very few lights and theatrics but I was still totally overcome by the sensations he was exuberating. Its Casey, man. He is just so powerful. But its not just him, its also the back-room genius of Warren. And its not just the pair either. This time round there was a band and two (unbelievably AWESOME) dancers and the cohesion, the synergy created by all the members was mind-bending. At one point the ballerinas were dancing like short-circuiting robots and everyone left their instruments and Casey and a roadie (Peanuts perhaps?) all malfunctioned together. The sight made the club swell in emotion.

There were so many people in the same state I was in. No shame in the dancing or the screaming. Ive never been anywhere where the audience was giving each other props for being so out of control. Then there were others who are having conversations while the band played masterpieces. Who were they? Heartless freaks, obviously.

Fischerspooner played Emerge, Invisible, Confusion, Megacolon. They started with The 15th (so beautiful). We Need a War, Kick in the Teeth… I dont remember what else. Cloud, Just Let Go. It was a really long concert. Maybe not to some but in comparison to the thirty-minute set at the Wireless Festival last summer it was epic. At one point gold streamers came down and I thought, wow, what a show BUT IT WASNT OVER! What happiness I felt. What bliss.

By the end of it I was glistening (which reminds me: that morning at the office one of my colleagues said to me, Youre glowing and its true, I was so excited and I wanted to puke so hard the acid was just seething out of my pores). The two guys I was with were wet to the core from the adrenalin and sweat. Such joy.

Ive never done this before but I have to make references to friends: Thank you so much to Kirk, Jake and Roey in assisting in one of the best moments of my life. I think we were the people that most enjoyed ourselves. Seriously. And thanks to me for marching up to BigLittle to tell him he reminded me of the doorman at Nag Nag Nag because thats the start of a beautiful friendship.
