Sennheiser have long been the leading brand in headphone technology and style. Since 1945 they have been the pioneers of many Headphone and Mic technologies, from aviation headphones in the 80’s (NoiseGrad 1987) to the go-to brand for pro DJ’s and sound engineers around the world. Sennheiser have always and will always produce the best quality products: Creativity, Quality and Style.

So what’s next on the cards for Sennheiser? Talking with there German HR I was leaked some very interesting news, Sennheiser has teamed up with another German heavy weight for their next line of custom headphones. It got me thinking? Becks? BMW… Hugo Boss? What could it possibly be? You guessed it – Adidas.

What could Adidas bring to Sennheiser you may ask? The answer is… (If it is indeed possible) more STYLE – more accurately; street style. We all know Adidas, and what they do; they are basically the definition of street style and class. So as you could imagine I was incredibly excited about what they could achieve. Nothing prepared me for what they would do.

We all know Sennheiser HD-25 -1 II… if you are anywhere near a half decent DJ they are using these black, lightweight but high quality DJ headphones. What could Adidas bring to this already near-perfect design? The answer is – Colour and basically; all round awesome-ness.

I received the package thanks to Sennheiser Germany; at first look I am thinking… they sent me some sneakers? The packaging is a shoebox, coloured with a wicked bright blue, with the Adidas stripes down the side. I open the box to reveal a pair of the sweetest HD-25-1 II I have ever seen. They’re coloured with the same wicked blue, from the earpieces to the padding to the cord; and of course there is the addition of the iconic Adidas 3-stripes. It’s a very simple but very effective design.

And of course, from my last Sennheiser Headphone review – “This is a phenomenal piece of DJ equipment, no wonder it’s the most widely accepted DJ tool.” The sound quality is second to none for the price, and the added style to the headphones will definitely set you apart from any other DJ’s. Pick these up and you will be the talk of the town. From the low basses to high hats, the quality and functionality is amazing, very, very crisp.

The world’s number one DJ/producer Tiësto has set another musical milestone with a new collaboration merging his own unique sound with the prog rock of South Africa’s hottest emerging band BLK JKS – recently awarded ‘Best Alternative Music Album’ at the SAMA’s (South African Music Awards, the equivalent of the US Grammys). As part of a global Smirnoff Experience event in South Africa called ‘Mashup Street’, Tiësto has created a new and exclusive track for download. “Dreaming” available for DJvibe.com readers below! The track will be premiered live to a worldwide audience via an online live stream from the ‘Mashup Street’ event on the 15th May in Johannesburg, allowing people from all over the world to participate.

“Dreaming” has the Dutch dance music superstar’s signature all over it, with a brooding synthy intro and a building bassline pulsating then breaking to reveal BLK JKS’ intense vocal. The electro-trance breakdown follows a cinematic mix of rising strings and a chorus of call and response using a bass hook of epic proportion, infused with blips of township funk and kwaito bop.
Tiesto is no stranger to collaborations having recently worked with the likes of Nelly Furtado and Jónsi from Sigur Rós, but even the man himself admitted this one was something special:

Tiesto – “Over the past year, I’ve done several collaborations with artists from a variety of genres, but have never worked with an artist from South Africa. I was excited by the opportunity to work with an act like BLK JKS, who are influenced by their South African roots, but also have some dance music sensibility. I’m looking forward to playing “Dreaming” live for the first time on May 15 at Smirnoff Experience™South Africa and on tour this summer. ”

BLK JKS – “Some people don’t realise it, but we are big fans of dance music. We’re honoured to be selected by Tiësto and Smirnoff to take part in this collaboration. We’ve created a straight up dance track, which is not what we would normally produce on our own. I think “Dreaming” will surprise our own fans, and hopefully open us up to new ones.”

The human bass tornado, and current reigning champ of the dubstep scene is Rusko, aka Christophert Mercer. Born in Leeds in 1985 to a musical family. From day dot Rusko was surrounded by music whether it be his families piano’s, guitars, banjo’s and saxophones…or in his later years the heavy reggae and dub sound systems of Leeds, music has always been an integral part of Rusko’s life.

After graduating from Leeds university with a degree in musical performance, Rusko discovered the world of dubstep through SUB DUB and a debut appearance from the “Digital Mystikz”, having spent the past 10 years making future dub alongside Leeds very own Iration Steppas, Rusko connected with the sound and moved down to London to further advance his musical opportunities.

Veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound Rusko bought a highly driven energy and fun approach to the dubstep massive, quickly coining his own take on the genre that infected . His sound appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world as his productions became more adventurous in formula, sound and energy. His huge hit “Cockney Thug” has been played by everyone from Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo and Santogold. And has been remixed by Buraka Som sistema, Diplo, Drop the Lime and the Scratch Perverts.

Now part of the Mad Decent Camp with collaborations on the horizon with the likes of Switch, Diplo , Santigold, Trouble Andrew, Hot Chip and more…the future sure is looking bright. Currently setting the radio airwaves alight with his own productions and remixes of artists such as The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Little Boots and plenty more, Rusko is only going in one direction. Onwards, upwards and far beyond any other young producer could dream of.

Thirty-one scales for musical expressiveness
The thirty-one types cover a range from chromatic scales to major, minor, blues and beyond. By specifying a scale and key, you can use a single finger to play perfect melodies and phrases that would be difficult to play even on a keyboard. There are also special scales such as Spanish, Ryukyu, and Raga, letting you play phrases that have a distinctive flavor. Loop Recording with unlimited overdubbing
Loop Recording can be set for up to four measures /16 beats. Your KAOSSILATOR PRO musical performances can be recorded into one of the Loop Recorder Banks. By adding (overdubbing) additional sounds one at a time, you can create amazing loop phrases by repeating the cycle of selecting a sound, playing a phrase, and recording the sound over and over again.

Four Loop Recording Banks allow DJ-style performances
The KAOSSILATOR PRO provides four Loop Recording Banks. These banks can be combined for virtually infinite performance possibilities. Each of the four loop banks can host infinite overdubs. In addition, each bank can be muted or un-muted, its volume adjusted, and its loop length changed, making dynamic live performances easy for anyone. An unneeded loop can be erased during playback, and a new one recorded, so there’s no need to stop the performance.

Loop Recording using an external source
The KAOSSILATOR PRO provides line inputs and a mic input, allowing loop recording using an external audio source. This makes it easy to add a rap, vocal, or audio from an external device to any loop phrase created on the KAOSSILATOR PRO.

USB + MIDI provides versatility and compatibility

The Small Town DJs show was absolutely mental.. It was a sold out show.. but if you were lucky enough to get yourself a ticket, then you know they were dropping some heavy tunes and remixes all night. Plus MC Erica Dee rocked the mic, free-styling over some house beats, and it sounded really dope.. well enough talking just checkout the vid.

Checkout this great interview with Deadmau5 as he talks about his latest sample pack release for Loopmasters. He also talks about his production methods and his much hyped out NEW Mau5 head. I’ve read in Mixmag he’s invested over 60K pounds in this thing so far, and the whole outside of the head is a video screen. He mentions in this interview that it will also have a display on the inside of the head that will show his laptop screen. Might make it tough to walk though.. but would very cool to watch.. this guy continues to amaze me. Checkout the video.

Underground Melbourne Producer/DJ/Musician/All-round-good-guy has blown us all away again! With the release of his new single – ‘Sometimes’ (which is off his yet to be named/released debut album) already creating a lot of buzz, we just can’t wait for the Album! As you may have noticed from our home page link, Miami Horror’s – ‘Sometimes’ has already hit number TWO on the Hype Machine’s Most Popular Tracks… Things are certainly about to heat up.

Spearheaded by the young and talented Benjamin, who you may remember from his, Breakthrough Summer Remix of ‘This Heart Attack ‘ by Aussie rockers Faker. Also who could forget the 2008 EP ‘Bravado’ featuring the hit song ‘Don’t Be On With Her’. Supported by a sensational trio of musician’s, with Benjamin on Keys, Bass and Sequencing, Josh on Guitar and Vox, Dan on Synth and Bass, Aaron on Drums and Sampler. Miami Horror is getting prepared for another assault on clubs and festivals around Australia.

Although very tight lipped I spoke exclusively to the man himself, he had some very interesting things to say about the new album:

Tell me about the new album and single?

Ben - Well josh the Guitarist/Vocalist got heavily involved about half way through the creative process adding a lot of guitar to the tracks. We’ve ended up making an album that could be a completely different artist to what Miami Horror is known for. No tracks were made specifically for the club at all.

Not specifically for the club?

Ben – Well after getting a little disenchanted with where club music was heading I decided to go in another direction, besides some of the first singles for the album have taken a turn towards some of our bigger recent influences.

They are?

Ben – Well I love Air, Pink Floyd and Supertramp! We are creating a sound that is new and fresh for us, we wanted to create something we didn’t feel anyone was exactly doing, while still tying the music in with our original direction.

You had some awesome guest artists on the EP anything new?

Ben – There are some collaborations with ‘The Golden Filter’ on a 60’s influenced dance track and also with vocalist Alan Palomo from NEON INDIAN and Vega.

Roc Raida has passed away. He was one of the greatest of all time. He helped us here at djvibe make some dmc tutorials in our shanghai studio and was always willing to teach kids his skills. He will be missed incredibly and we send our condolences to his family. RIP Anthony.

“The legendary Grand Master Roc Raida has passed away this morning,” a representative for the DJ. “Family and friends will miss him dearly. Please give the family their privacy.”

The source refused to give details of his illness or injury, or even the cause of Roc Raida’s death, but did state that previous reports of an injury during karate class or a car accident were inaccurate.
The rep confirmed that Roc Raida was hospitalized last week, but would only state that the DJ’s death was totally “unexpected.”

Grand Master Roc Raida started DJ’ing at the age of 10, after being inspired by his father, who was a member of Sugar Hill Records group, Mean Machine.Roc Raida was an original member of the X-Men turntable crew, who later became The X-Ecutioners, a DJ collective that helped innovate the art form of turntablism.

He became internationally known, after taking home the DMC World DJ Championship in 1995.Grand Master Roc Raida released 12 albums total as a solo artist and as member of The X-Ecutioners. Roc Raida, born Anthony Williams, also produced tracks, crafting song or worked with artists like Smif-N-Wessun, Fat Joe, Ghostface, Black Thought, Pink, Linkin Park and others. His scratching can also be heard on O.C.’s timeless Hip-Hop track “Time’s Up.” Additionally, Grand Master Roc Raida served as Busta Rhymes’ official tour DJ.

Rhymes expressed his condolences today, via his Twitter page, after Roc Raida’s death became a trending topic on the popular micro-blogging site.”I just wanna thank everyone 4 ur love and support and ur prayers,” Busta Rhymes Tweeted. “We will never let ur name die Roc…We love u and will 4ever miss u…RIP…I was told 2day, We r loosing [sic] all of these great people this year as a result of God calling his army because something is about 2 go down!”

Grand Master Roc Raida was also the creator of the popular Gong DJ Battle. The next event was scheduled for September 30, in San Diego, California.

We are now only seven days away from Calvin Harris‘ new album Ready For The Weekend and the Electro Man himself not only created disco, but also created, as he claims in this two-part clip, the first “humanthesizer.” In collaboration with Bare Conductive, a team of engineers who design music made with bare skin coming in contact with special black ink and sensorial padding connected to wiring, the end result is a series of notes and melodies all created by human touch. You can witness it in this finalize clip, there is also the making of the Humanthesizer, which is pretty boring, but still worth it if you’re a music/science-tech geek, which I’m sure you are! It’s either this or JAM TV, folks. Tinchy and Peter Andere aren’t gonna have it at the top of the pops without a fight. Enjoy.
