DJ Tiga @ The Loft (Barcelona, Spain)

DJ Tiga was AWESOME.

But before I get all exciteable about him the opening DJ deserves some words. This DJ, no idea who he was, was SO cute. He wore a red shirt that wasn´t tight enough and had the sweetest face - a mixture of Buck 65 and Jimmy Van M (and if that weren´t enough he totally won me over by jumping up and down to Tiga´s first track). The music he played was sublime. The first track I heard him play was minimal techno. Why is minimal techno is so sexy?

Thereafter it was perfectly threaded electro. The only track that was known to me was an odd remix of Swayzak´s ´State of Grace´ - it had a psychedilic trance beat and the woman´s singing was slower than on the original. The best part of his set was a track that was very reminiscent to the music that I remember hearing at the advent of my rave years and it was both nostalgic and beautiful. Dancing to him was a huge pleasure.

Then Tiga. He came out much before his set to look at the equipment and his outfit seemed so perfectly administered that I felt a grudge against him coming on. However, when he took to the decks all my mean thoughts faded away. He played very exciting electro that shook me hard. Unfortunately, though, he had very long moments where he would play boring house (at one point he put on a track with a wailing woman – it was unbearable).

He didn’t play ‘Sunglasses at Night’ but he did play a few anthems and each one would unleash a wave of whistles and screams from the one clubbers.

In the second room was DJ Sideral – the best Spanish DJ in my opinion. He plays techno, house and electro but because the electro was in full force in the main room he was exclusively techno tonight.

The Loft is my most favourite club in Barcelona. The space is huge like an old school warehouse and it is painted black. The sound system is great, everything is very organized and there is always a ridiculous line up for the girls’ bathroom by the main room so always go to the one connected to the second room.
